Aric Gitomer / Ride For The Living 2024

We are undertaking this meaningful 60 mile ride from Auschwitz-Birkenau to the JCC Krakow as a tribute Helene's parents, Betty Reich z”l and Sam Reich z”l , both Holocaust survivors. Both parents are from the Galicia region of Poland, and this program will be the culmination of a “roots” trip to Helene's father's town, Dubiecko. The Ride for the Living will raise much needed funds for the JCC Krakow and the community it serves. This will be a tribute to what they and their families endured, and to those who perished. Ride For The Living (RFTL) is a four-day experience that gives you the chance to immerse yourself in Krakow’s Jewish past, present, and future. RFTL boasts a full schedule of activities, including a private guided tour of Auschwitz, tours of Krakow, participation in the largest Shabbat dinner in post-war Krakow, and an inspiring one-day, 60-mile (97 km) bike ride from Auschwitz-Birkenau to JCC Krakow, culminating in Krakow’s Jewish Culture Festival, which welcomes over 30,000 people and offers around 300 events each year. Ride For The Living was inspired by Robert Desmond, who rode his bicycle 1,350 miles (2,180 km) from London to Auschwitz, visiting Holocaust and WWII sites along his journey. Following his ride, Robert came to Krakow and visited the JCC, where he learned about the reawakened and growing Jewish community in the city. It was clear that his ride should not have ended at Auschwitz, a place of sorrow and loss, but at JCC Krakow, surrounded by the local community and friends from around the world.”
